You Ain't Nothing but a Hound Dog

I searched all over the internet this morning to find up-to-date news about the Time Warner/Brighthouse v. CBS/Showtime standoff. It’s personal!  Not only do I like the series shows on Showtime a lot, but I review them on my blog.  I’m working really hard to expand the reach of my blog, and I will lose all momentum if I can’t review shows like Dexter, Homeland and Web Therapy.  (And all the other Showtime series that are fortunately on hiatus during this blackout.)

Finally, I discovered that the reason it was so hard to find news about this was because there is no news about this. Nothing is happening. They are not even negotiating. They are each just showing off about how little they are hurt by this blackout and vowing not to move an inch in compromise.  (Who do they think they are—Congress?)

And who is helplss caught in the middle of this battle. The innocent viewers who collectively put billions into the coffers of these companies.

I was reminded- of the old TV ad—“I want my MTV.” Well, I want my Showtime!

Then I thought of the old Elvis Presley song-“Blue Suede Shoes.”  You can do anything you wanna do, but don’t step on my blue suede shoes. You can do anything you wanna do, but don’t take away my Showtime.

From there I went to “You to you ain’t nothing but a hound dog.”  And I mean you Time Warner!  And I mean you Showtime!  I’d use strong words, but my advertisers say I can’t have obscene content.

And how about, “Don’t be cruel.” Bring back my Showtime!

Who knew Elvis Presley had so much to say about this dispute between Time Warner and CBS?

Update: Good News

It appears that Showtime is once again linking to my reviews on the Dexter homepage at www.sho.com.  It's nice to have the recognition. 

I put a lot of time and effort into doing the reviews.  It's nice to know that more peole will read them.

I've read the other reviewers and bloggers that are linked in "In the News." I think I offer an unique viewpoint. It's part review, part recap, but the most important part is commentary.  I identify a theme in each episode and that becomes the subject of the piece. I bring in real-life isues related to the theme. his unique approach is why some readers have told me they have enjoed my reviews even though they have'nt seen the show.

My Brief Brush with Fame

Fame is fleeting. 

Last week, Showtime put a link to my review of “Dexter” on their web page for the show.  It was for episode 2 of season 7, “Sunshine and Frosty Swirl.” It was on a page called “In the News.”

This week I was so excited by the prospect of being recognized again that I got up early Monday morning and wrote my reviews for “Dexter" episode 703 that I named "Necessary, Greater and Lesser Evils" and “Homeland” episode 203 that I named "Wired."  It takes me about 3 hours to write a review and get it posted, so unless I want to pull an all-nighter, the reviews have to wait for Monday.  Also, I think the review is better if “I sleep on it” and let the ideas percolate through my brain.

But fame is fleeting.

Both “Dexter” and “Homeland” now have an “In the News” link.  Now the link takes you to a whole list of reviews. My review of episode 702 for Dexter is still up, but neither of my reviews for this week made the cut.  I think my reviews this week are just as good as the one I wrote last week.

Why didn’t I make the cut?  Fame is fleeting.

I'm a "Playa" Now

One of the shows I review each week is “Dexter” because it is one of my favorite shows

 

I am so thrilled. I noticed that my review of Showtime’s Dexter Season 2 episode 2 “Sunshine and Frosty Swirl” was getting hundreds of hits, way more than usual.  I saw from my stats that the hits were coming from http://www.sho.com/sho/dexter/home 

 

I followed that link. It went to the Dexter home page.

 

On the bottom right hand side of the Dexter home page, there is a link “In the News.”  That link goes to my blog.

It’s a thrill to have my review recognized by Showtime.  They liked it enough to link to it from the Dexter homepage.

 

As soon as I discovered this, I went to my review and proofed it.  I found some typos and fixed them.  Now that I’m a big time reviewer, a "playa", it wouldn’t do to have typos.
